10/3/09

I went to the Childhood Museum for my improv class to start the day. It was interesting to see how many of the toys they had that I had too. At the same time, it was disappointing. Perhaps the most disappointing part of coming to Europe has been how American everything has felt. I don't feel like I'm really ever that far away, probably because I hang out with a lot of Americans, but also because I've never had the experience where I felt completely lost and alone (I make that sound like a good thing). But everywhere I go, people speak English. It's sort of sad, like you don't even have to learn about their culture or anything because they know yours. It's interesting.

Anyways, they had Star Wars, Ninja Turtles, Batman, Segas, etc. there. They also had some old dolls and toys which were interesting, but maybe about 50 years ago everything started to look American.

The museum wasn't huge, and there were lots of kids running around, so I didn't spend that long there.

I went down to the IT desk and they suggested going to Tottenham Court Road to get electronic stuff. I went into probably about six stores before I got the right cord for the best price. The best part was the store I went to tried it out for me. It was more than I wanted to pay (and a British plug) but it was worth it to have it. It was a big relief for me.

I also called Talk Mobile and finally got my password squared away (they thought I said 'q' instead of '2') and I also topped my Oyster card up, so I won't keep having to do that.

I came back and worked on the blog for a while and then went out to eat Chinese food. We went to a restaurant in Chinatown down by Leicester Square. I'd been around there a little but there was a lot more to it than I thought. The one we went to was pretty cool. I had stir fry spinach with garlic and a side of rice. It was good, I didn't love it as much as Indian food, but it was still something I'd eat again. I ate the whole meal with chopsticks, I was pretty happy with myself. At the end they gave us oranges. It was sort of funny. I can now eat the food of about half the world's population in the last two weeks.

After dinner I had to read a play that I forgot about for class the next day, so I read that and went to sleep.
