19/3/09

I got my package from ma today, and I had the Girl Scout's cookies for breakfast. It was awesome, I eat those so quick.

For Art and Society we went to the National Gallery, which I'd never been to. We went to the Picasso exhibit. It was pretty great, except smaller than I expected.

They didn't have any major works, but they had a surprising variety. I didn't realize how often he changed his style. The coolest part of the exhibit was they had photos of paintings that Picasso looked at and the recreated in his own style, keeping the same subjects and all, but just Picassoized. I ended up talking about it with one of the professors and we talked about how music is sort of the same way now, with sampling and the copyright laws up in the air. This was really interesting to me, so I asked if I could write my paper on it and she said sure. I talked with her about Girl Talk, and I'm going to basically compare Girl Talk and Picasso, using quotes I have from him. Should actually be really exciting.

Theater was presentations, most of which were sort of awful. I'm giving mine next week, and I have no idea what I'm going to do mine on, I'm starting to stress out about it a little. It needs to be on London Theater for 8-10 minutes. I wanted to do something about movie reviews or something along those lines using things I have experience with, but it might be too hard to do.

During break I went to Starbucks and got a strawberries and cream. I've had a suspicion for a while, and I confirmed it today. It's earth shattering. I'm basically Aladdin now. So my old Starbucks card, with no money on it that I registered online, at the Starbucks across the street it has trouble reading the cards, and it never gives me a balance, it just says balance unavailable. Last time I went I didn't think I'd have enough to cover a drink, and when I looked at the record it only charged me £2.91 for a £3.20 drink. So now that I knew I had no money left on the card, I tried again.

It worked. I got my drink and didn't pay anything. I'm dealing with the ethics of trying to figure out if I should be doing this, if I can get in any trouble, and how often I should do it. I went back later and this time upgraded my grande to a venti, and it worked. Free Starbucks until they catch it in the system somehow. I don't have any food left, but I'm thinking tomorrow I'm just going to eat at Starbucks. This is just about the coolest thing that's ever happened to me, like I'm in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

I went and wrote up my column (about March Madness, a big relief to have done), and started to work on some of the things I have due soon.

Then I met up with the Americans at the pub on Marylebone High Street around the corner. I'm still really tired, so that's all I'm going to get done tonight it looks like. Tomorrow should be productive, I leave around 4:50 pm for my bus.
